0716 Assignment - Response to Standards

In-TASC Standard #6: Assessment
The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to
engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and
to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making.

This is something I feel I need to work on.  Multiple methods of assessment is something I feel that I need to become diverse on. I am hoping the use of online assessment may be something that may help me with that.

In regards to technology I am hoping real time feedback from online assessments would help students  in understanding of their grasp of the concept we are working on.  I observed this with use of google docs from  a science teacher in Canby high school.  It was pretty amazing and the level of engagement was very high in using ipads in a dissection they were doing.  The followup lab questions were very interesting in how they were implemented using the ipad with immediate feedback on many of the questions.  Student feedback was very positive in the use of ipads as a tool in helping them in the lab dissection.

0716 Assignment - Response to Preface/CH1/CH2

In reading chapter one I feel that this was one the most relevant of the importance of incorporating technology into curriculum.  Things are changing so quickly now that I really feel if you are not staying on top of new ideas you will become less effective in your practice.  I liken this to my dad who is a doctor and in talking with him about how much medical technology has changed in his thirty years of practicing medicine.  I remember discussions with him in the struggle to keep up with modern practices and the importance of staying on top of the newest ideas and technologies.   I feel that this is the same situation in teaching and becoming less effective or engaging as a teacher. 

0716 Assignment -CH3-7 Tool Usage

Google calendar was the most applicable for me in my classroom practice.  I have a calendar setup for my upcoming chemistry class at Central this fall.  The intent of this calendar is for students to be able to go to a specific day especially if they are absent and see what was covered in class.  If there is a assignment that they missed for that day they can click on it in the calendar, download and print it out.   This is my website on how I am incorporating the calendar in my class website.  Please go to September and click on the HW; Class Syllabus Contract to see how they can download the electronic file.
